Chile must invest about 151,000 million Dollars in infrastructure over the next ten years. According to the Chilean Chamber of Construction (CChC), the materialization of the investments planned in the next decade would allow, in the short term, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to grow to reach an annual growth close to 6%, three times more than last year.
The study carried out points out that the inter-urban circulation is poor and that the transport in major cities urgently needs decongestion projects such as urban trains. The total investment required in this area can add 74,218 million Dollars in the next ten years.
For its part, the necessary investment estimated by CChC on water resources could reach 12,540 million Dollars to ensure the supply of water, both in quantity and in quality.
In telecommunications, it was estimated that the deficit in broadband connections, along with fibre optic connections and the access to fixed and mobile bands requires an investment of 26,346 million Dollars by the middle of next decade.
Given the current weak economic growth, which will keep at medium term, the study shows that the projects already under construction would be sufficient to meet most of the required investments (11,566 million Dollars) over the next decade.
“We are interested to be aware of the infrastructure needs because n these works are a key factor for the development and competitiveness of the country,” said Jorge Mas, president of CChC.
The Chilean government sent to the Congress a bill that proposes to create a state company that handles a fund infrastructure of around 9,000 million Dollars.
